Paavo Nurmi Games
For Paavo Nurmi's 60th birthday in June 1957, the Turun Urheiluliitto (German: Turkuer Sports Association) organized the 1st Paavo Nurmi Games as a gift .
They are a Premium Permit Meeting of the European Athletic Association (EAA) and are one of the main events in the Sports Park of Turku ( Finland ), where they are held in the Paavo Nurmi Stadium .
In 2013 the games took place on June 16. There was a worldwide field of participants. In 2014 they were held on June 25th. 2015 on June 25th, and four DLV athletes took part: Lena Urbaniak , Sabine Rumpf , Sebastian Keiner and Thomas Röhler . In 2017 the 55th Paavo Nurmi Games took place on June 13th, his 120th birthday.
The event has been part of the IAAF World Challenge since 2017 .
