Pablo Estramín

Pablo Estramín (born September 30, 1959 in Montevideo , Uruguay , † June 18, 2007 ibid) was a Uruguayan musician .

Estramín, who is to be counted among the representatives of the music genre of the Canto Popular , began his vocal training in 1972 with Elida Grandall. He recorded his first record as a solo artist in 1983, but began his musical career as early as the 1970s with Verbenas Españolas and then with the folklore group Nuevo Tiempo . In 1986 he and other international musicians took part in a music festival for peace and disarmament in Ukraine. From 1988 he was under contract with the Orfeo label . His most successful records in terms of sales figures come from this period, such as the albums "Estamos acostumbrados", "Lo mejor de Pablo Estramín" and "La campana" , which were awarded the gold record . "Morir en la capital" from 1992 even achieved platinum status. In the same year he was awarded the Charrúa de Oro , the Golden Charrúa , at the Durazno Festival . Estramín, who also performed in Spain , Brazil , Argentina , Paraguay and the Soviet Union , died of complications from cancer and was buried one day after his death in the Cementerio del Norte in Montevideo.
