Pablo Urtasun Pérez (born March 29, 1980 in Urdiain , Navarra ) is a Spanish cyclist .

Career

Urtasun rode for Caja Rural from 2000 to 2004 before this team was registered as a cycling team with the UCI . He first drew attention to himself at the age of 22 at the Volta Ciclista Internacional a Lleida 2002 by winning the sixth stage. In the same year he won the fifth stage of the Vuelta a León . In 2003 Urtasun won a stage of the Vuelta a Extremadura . At the Volta a Galicia he drove as a stagiaire for the Danish team CSC and won two stages. In 2004 he won again for Caja Rural a stage of the Vuelta a Córdoba and the Vuelta Ciclista a Navarra as well as two stages of the Vuelta a Palencia .

In 2005 Urtasun received a regular contract with the Spanish Professional Continental Team Kaiku . In his first year as a professional he could not achieve any success. In 2006 he finished second in the overall ranking of the Rhineland-Palatinate Tour after several top stage placements. At the Volta ao Alentejo he won the first stage.

In 2007 Urtasun moved to the UCI Continental Team Liberty Seguros . For this team he won stages of the Vuelta Ciclista a la Rioja and the Volta ao Sotavento Algarvio . In 2008 he won stages at the Vuelta a Asturias and the Rota do Vinho Verde .

For the 2009 season Urtasun signed a contract with the Basque UCI ProTeam Euskaltel Euskadi . In 2010 he won the first stage of the Vuelta a Asturias and wore the overall leader's jersey for one day. After a third place in the Bayern Rundfahrt and a second in the Tour de Suisse , he started for the first time at the Vuelta a España and supported his captain Igor Antón until he left. In the overall ranking he was 101.

Urtasan took part in the Tour de France 2011 and 2012 and finished in 148th and 134th place. On the fifth stage of the Tour de France 2012 he was caught as the last remaining outlier only 200 meters from the finish. At the Tour of Britain , he then won the seventh stage.

In 2013 he won a stage of the Vuelta a Castilla y León . He also took part in the Giro d'Italia , which he had to give up and in the Vuelta a España , which he finished 122nd. After the Euskatel team was dissolved, he only drove for smaller teams.
