Paco Ignacio Taibo I

Paco Ignacio Taibo I (born July 19, 1924 in Gijón , Asturias , as Francisco Ignacio Taibo Lavilla González Nava Suárez Vich Manjón , † November 13, 2008 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican writer and journalist. He fled to France as a socialist in the Spanish civil war and began his journalistic career there. In 1959 he went to Mexico, where he was the founder and director of the cultural section of El Universal , one of the largest Mexican newspapers. As a friend of Luis Buñuel , he was important to the Mexican film scene. He has written novels, plays and essays .

Taibo died on November 13, 2008 of pneumonia. He was the father of the writer Paco Ignacio Taibo II , the poet Benito Taibo and the film producer Carlos Taibo .
