Padrauna ( Hindi : पडरौना Paḍraunā [ pʌɖˈrɔːna ]) is a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .
It is located around 75 kilometers east of Gorakhpur and 240 kilometers northeast of Varanasi in the northeast of Uttar Pradesh near the border with the neighboring state of Bihar . 22 kilometers south of Padrauna is the Buddhist pilgrimage site Kushinagar , the place where the Buddha died . Padrauna is the largest city and the administrative seat of the Kushinagar district . At the 2011 census, the city had 49,723 inhabitants.
