Padre Pedrote is a Chilean television series about the pastor Jacinto Pedrote, who solves various crimes in Santiago de Chile .

action

Jacinto Pedrote is the pastor of a small community in the Andes and leads the ordinary life of a clergyman. One day, however, while taking a walk, he witnessed an apparition of God : a bush began to burn and gave him the task of waging a campaign against evil and taking revenge on those who offend their fellow men and disregard the Ten Commandments . In the blazing midday heat, however, the pastor collapses, but when he is found and treated, he is absolutely convinced that he has come across God and sets off with his sister Manuela and a shotgun to Santiago, a lair of sin. When he during a bank robbery shoots his gun at a criminal and then hands it over to the police, he falls for the first time to the police commissioner Bernardo Escobar, who is his best friend and increasingly involves him in his investigation, because a serial killer known only as El Lobo known, makes the city unsafe. Pedrote begins to hunt him down with the help of the computer specialist Paco Hermoso, but El Lobo always manages to escape him. In the last episode of the first season, the violent pastor then confronts an assistant to El Lobo, Eduardo, and kills him in the process. Now Pedrote decides to put down his weapon and to track down the criminals only with the power of his intellect, while he tries again and again to speak to his god a second time. An often recurring phrase is "an eye for an eye ", a phrase that Pedrote says in almost every episode, especially in the first season.

background

The series has been filmed since 2006, but was temporarily suspended in 2008 because of a lack of production funds. Successful Chilean author Daniel Aguilar got the idea for the series while reading the thorn bush scene from the Bible to his son . Known, among other things, for its numerous allusions to Hollywood productions such as Pulp Fiction by Quentin Tarantino , the series quickly developed into one of the top hits on Chilean television, but the Catholic Church managed to prevent it from being broadcast until midnight. In Germany, the series can best be compared to the series Pfarrer Braun , even if Padre Pedrote has a significantly higher degree of scenes that glorify violence . In 2006 and 2007 the series won the Chilean Television Award for Best Crime Series twice in a row.
