Paga Debiti

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paga Debiti is an old white wine variety in Corsica . Its name means pays its debts and alludes to the fact that the variety is very profitable and brought the winemaker secure income. It is most certainly of Italian origin, but is not identical to the Pagadebito variety that is common there . The entire vegetation cycle of the vine is very late compared to other varieties. The budding takes place approx. 18 days after the Gutedel variety , the time of harvest is even 5 weeks later than the harvest of the Gutedel variety . The Paga Debiti therefore only thrives in extremely warm vineyards in order to reach full maturity.

The late-ripening variety produces fresh, low-alcohol wines with a straw yellow color. The clones 868 and 869 are approved for growing quality wines. Since no new vineyards are being planted, the variety is rarely found today. Their population is unlikely to exceed 2 hectares in Corsica.

Although one of the synonyms of the Biancone di Portoferraio variety is also Pagadebiti , the two varieties are not directly related to each other. The same applies to the Biancone variety grown in Corsica .
