The Paissandu Atlético Clube is a Brazilian social club in Rio de Janeiro in the state of the same name .

history

The club was founded in 1872 as the Rio Cricket Club and renamed the Paysandu Cricket Club in 1880 . The club's premises were then located on Rua Paysandu in the Laranjeras district of what was then the federal district of Rio . Primary sports were cricket and rugby . At the beginning of the 20th century, the club also set up a soccer team, which in 1906 was one of the founding teams of the district championship (Carioca) of Rio de Janeiro , today's national championship. In 1912 he also won this in the association of the Liga Metropolitana de Sports Athléticos (LMSA). The football team was dissolved as early as 1914, whereupon the name Paysandu Athletic Club was adopted, which was later changed to the Portuguese spelling. In 1953 the club moved to the Leblon district , where it still offers various sports and leisure activities to this day.
