Pak Myong-chol (born September 15, 1941 in Uiju ) is a North Korean politician (PdAK) who has been a member of the Central Committee of the Korean Workers' Party since 2010 and President of the Supreme Court of the DPRK since 2014.

Career

Pak Myong-chol was born in 1941 in Uiju, a county in P'yŏngan-pukto Province . When Pak was 17 or 18 years old, his father Pak Jong-ho was sent to South Korea in 1959 on a mission initiated by the then leader of North Korea, Kim Il-sung , and was captured and killed there. As a result, Kim reportedly told young Pak and his siblings that he would "take care of them" personally.

In his youth, Pak began wrestling training and there may have met his wife Kim Yong-suk, the daughter of the famous Korean-Japanese wrestler Rikidozan . Through his wife, Pak has a good relationship with the famous Japanese wrestler and politician Antonio Inoki .

Pak has held various senior positions in North Korea in the administration of Fiskultura and Sports since 1975 . He was the head of the Olympic Committee of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in 1992 and 2004 and was appointed chairman of the Olympic Committee in 1993. In 1994 he was a member of Kim Il-sung's funeral committee. In 1998, 2009 and 2014 he was deputy of the 10th, 12th and 13th Supreme People's Assemblies. For the Asian Games in Busan (South Korea) in 2002 , Pak traveled by boat with a large number of cheerleaders and brought the number of North Koreans in Busan to around 700.

In September 2010 he joined the Central Committee of the Korean Labor Party. Pak was on the funeral committee of Kim Jong-il, who died in December 2011 . While the South Korean Ministry of Association noted that his public appearances were restricted after April 2012 and it was speculated that Kim Jong-un officials were sorting out his father, Kim Jong-il, Pak was appointed to a less powerful position in 2014. From then on he was President of the Supreme Court of the DPRK and a member of the Supreme People's Assembly .
