history

Bay window of the Palais Bauer

In 1853, the area around today's Türkenstrasse was released for building. Gradually three palaces were built next to each other. The Palais Khevenhüller-Metsch , the Palais Wimpffen and the Palais Bauer. The 4-story Bauer rental palace was built in 1861 for Wenzel Bauer by the architect Franz Neumann .

description

The architect cleverly used various elements to loosen up the severity of the facade. The straight lines are broken through the variation of the window shapes. A segmental arch is used for the portals and windows on the ground floor, while the upper corners of the skylights are rounded on the two floors above. Narrow pilaster strips support a straight window ledge on consoles . The parapets on the piano nobile are decorated with ornaments. The middle bay, which extends over the first and second floors, is accentuated by rich plastic decorations - caryatids and columns . The bay window carries a balcony on the parapet of which a heraldic cartouche is held by two putti . The two window axes on the side of the bay protrude slightly. A mighty cantilever cornice completes the building at the top.
