Palais Blankenstein

history

An existing building with medieval and baroque structures was increased in 1791/92 and the facade was designed in an early classicist style. In the years 1887 to 89 the building was adapted again and restored in 1995. Since 1887 the residential palace has housed the kk Hofzuckerbäckerei Demel .

description

An early Classicist upper zone rises above a high, two-story base. The vertical emphasis by pilasters with Corinthian capitals that extend over two floors is striking. The windows on the second floor are particularly beautiful with putti and plant motifs as lunette decoration and false balustrades in the parapets. The putti motif is repeated on the windows of the floor above, but here in a rectangular shape. On the attic level, a heavy console cornice rests on volute consoles between rectangular windows.
