history

A previous building, which had been built around 1625, came into the possession of Lieutenant Field Marshal Ferdinand Gobert , Count of Aspremont-Linden-Reckheim , at the end of the 17th century . At that time the building was also called Palais Aspremont, and the Hungarian freedom fighter Prince Ferenc II. Rákóczi was often a guest in this house, as a dedication on the palace reminds of. In 1714 the palace came into the possession of Count Georg Erdődy . Until 1724 the palace was extended by an unknown builder and given a high baroque facade. The builder most likely also designed the Palais Neupauer-Breuner , as the similarities in the facade design suggest. In 1773 the palace came into the possession of the Landgraves von Fürstenberg and remained so until 1987. Today it is used by Francesca Habsburg-Lothringen as a residence and for art exhibitions from her collection, and in 2014 the Austrian fashion designer La Hong Nhut set up his flagship store and studio here.

description

A high, two-storey grooved base with square windows with wedge-shaped stones forms the lower zone, which is separated from the three-storey upper zone by its coloring and a cordon cornice. The three-axis, flat central projection with wall panels recessed at the sides has windows connected vertically by parapets with partially blown and kinked roofs. The fall fields are richly decorated with tendrils and masks. The arched portal is flanked on the sides by pillars with herms that support the balcony. Count Erdődy's coat of arms is attached to the blasted segmented gable of the bel étage window.
