The Palais Sándor ( Hungarian Sándor-palota ) is a palace in the Castle District of Budapest . It is located next to the castle palace .

history

The palace was the Buda city residence of the noble Sándor family . It was built in 1806. Prime Minister Count Gyula Andrássy made it the seat of his government chancellery in 1867. On April 3, 1941, Prime Minister Count Pál Teleki shot himself here in despair over his failed foreign policy towards National Socialist Germany . The palace was badly damaged in the Battle of Budapest in the winter of 1944/45 and looted by Soviet soldiers in 1945.

After the fall of the Eastern Bloc it was rebuilt; the interiors were reconstructed in 2002. Since January 2003 it has been the seat of the President .

architecture

The palace has three floors. The architecture is classical . A long stone frieze stretches across the facade .
