Sándor (noble family)
The Sándor family was an old Hungarian noble family , one of the first and richest magnate families in the country, which died out as a male in the 19th century.
history
The Sándor family presumably comes from the Trenčín county in today's Slovakia . In 1456 it received the Slavnica domain as a royal gift .
In 1706 Gáspár Sándor was given the title of baron , but this branch of the family soon died out. Antal Sándor , from another branch of the family, was made count in 1787 . Móric Sándor (1805–1878), the last male descendant of the family, married Princess Leontine Adelheid Maria Pauline von Metternich-Winneburg (1811–1861), the daughter of Klemens Wenzel Lothar von Metternich . From this marriage came Pauline von Metternich (1836–1921), who married her cousin Richard Clemens von Metternich-Winneburg (1829–1895). This branch was now called Metternich-Sándor von Winneburg . The property of the Sándor family passed to the Metternich family.
