The town of Bicske [ ˈbitʃkɛ ] (German: Witschke ) is located in the northern part of Fejér County in Hungary .
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1306, while the ruling family of the same name was mentioned as early as 1258. Around 1541 the area was under Ottoman rule . By 1686 the number of inhabitants decreased considerably. A year later, after the battle of Mohács , the city improved, which became the administrative seat of a local authority in the course of a regional reform and received market rights in 1773 .
The railway found its way into Bicske in 1884 when the last capital route between Budapest and Újszőny was opened. A local railway was also later connected, connecting it to Székesfehérvár (the latter was discontinued for passenger transport in the 1970s, but freight traffic continues). With the construction of the railway, the number of inhabitants rose continuously. In 1877, however, the seat of the regional administration was moved to Vál . In 1921 the Budapest – Győr railway was the first line in Hungary to be electrified, which significantly improved the connection to Budapest.
The Second World War caused enormous damage to the city, and most of the industry and infrastructure were razed to the ground. In 1945 the seat of the area administration was moved back to Bicske. On January 1, 1986, it was promoted to city.
traffic
Bicske is on the Budapest – Győr – Hegyeshalom - Vienna railway line . Express trains run from here in the direction of Budapest, Győr, Rajka , Sopron and Szombathely .
The city is on main road 1, with the old country road going around the center. The M1 motorway with the Bicske junction runs along the city limits . A smaller road connects the city with road 811. It is of central importance for regular bus services in the region.
