Etyek ( German Edeck ) is a large municipality in Bicske County, which is in Fejér County in Hungary . It is located about 30 kilometers west of Budapest . The large municipality has 4,367 inhabitants (as of 2011). The name Etyek is also used for the surrounding wine-growing region.
history
Etyek was first mentioned in a document as "Ethik" in 1326. The name of the village was originally derived from a person called "Ete". The Hungarian population was decimated by war and famine between 1593 and 1683. From 1723 Catholic farmers from Württemberg were settled in Etyek. In 1741 the second wave of Germans arrived . In 1776 1,091 people lived in Edeck.
From 1814 to 1816 the neo-baroque church “Maria Heimsuchung” was built. During the Second World War , Hungarian-German Edecker fought in the Romanian and Hungarian armies on the side of the German Reich, but also in the Wehrmacht and in the Waffen-SS . In March 1946, 2,300 people of German origin were expelled (around 80% of the population). After the expropriation, most of the displaced persons from the German community of Edeck settled in the American zone of occupation again near Stuttgart . In 1986 the memorial stone of the Edecker in Lauffen am Neckar was inaugurated in the park cemetery. On the front you can see a depiction of the church "Maria Visitation" and on the back: "We commemorate our homeland."
