Alcsútdoboz is a Hungarian community in the district Bicske in Fejér County . It is located about 40 kilometers west of Budapest . In 1950 the villages of Alcsút and Vértesdoboz were united under the name Alcsútdoboz .
history
Alcsútdoboz and its surroundings were inhabited from the Stone Age until today. Archaeological finds from the Bronze Age and the Roman Age were uncovered in Göböljáráspuszta and in the area of the castle. The first known documentary mention comes from the year 1365.
In 1819, Emperor Franz II appointed his younger brother Archduke Joseph Anton Johann of Austria as governor of Hungary; the Hungarian National Assembly elected him Palatine in 1796. Palatine Joseph Anton made great contributions to the economic and cultural boom in Hungary. He is considered to be the founder of the Hungarian branch of the Habsburg-Lothringen family .
The Alcsút Castle became his 1819-1827 by the architect Mihály Pollack built (1773-1855). The castle was destroyed after the Second World War, only the entrance (portico) decorated with columns still stands. The park around the summer house of the Palatine was designed after 1825 in the style of an English garden. The castle park is also enriched by rare plants ( arboretum ).
Archduke Joseph Karl Ludwig of Austria reported in scientific publications about the flora of the estate in Alcsút and the experiments in plant breeding carried out in Fiume . He also achieved his rank among European scholars by studying the folklore and the language of the Gypsies . The first attempts to " solve the Gypsy question " in Hungary are linked to his name.
