Margarethe Klementine Maria Archduchess of Austria (born July 6, 1870 in Alcsút , Austria-Hungary , † May 2, 1955 in Regensburg ) was a member of the House of Habsburg-Lothringen and, by marriage, Princess of Thurn and Taxis . It came from the Hungarian branch of the House of Habsburg-Lothringen, which went back to Archduke Joseph († 1847) .

Life

Archduchess Margarethe Klementine was the third daughter of Archduke Joseph Karl Ludwig of Austria (1833-1905) and his wife Princess Clotilde of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (1846-1927), daughter of Prince August of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Princess Clementine the Elder 'Orléans .

She married Prince Albert von Thurn und Taxis , son of Hereditary Prince Maximilian Anton von Thurn und Taxis and Duchess Helene in Bavaria on July 15, 1890 in Budapest . From this marriage there were seven children:

Margarethe Klementine was an Archduchess of Austria and Princess of Thurn und Taxis until the November Revolution of 1918 . She was a passionate rider and worked as a sculptor. In both the First and the Second World War she performed services of a nurse and supported throughout their lives charitable associations. She took her siblings in Regensburg when they left Hungary in the final phase of World War II in 1944 . Three years after the death of her husband, Margarethe Klementine died on May 2, 1955 at the age of 84 in Regensburg.

Archduchess Margarethe Klementine worked as a sculptor, also under her stage name Margit von Valsassina . For example, she designed the altar for Regensburg, modeled the two side altar reliefs and the 14 statues of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and designed the war memorial in the city ​​park of Regensburg. She also designed the monument to Bonifaz Wimmer in Thalmassing (cast in 1909 by A. Brandstetter in Munich).
