Csákvár [ ˈtʃaːk̬vaːr ] (German: Tschakwar ) is a large municipality in the small area of Bicske , which lies in Fejér County in northwestern Hungary .
Geographical location
The place is located on the southern slope of the Vértes Mountains , where a nature reserve for rare mountain plants has been established. In the Esterházy cave on the mountain above Csákvár, prehistoric animal bones and remains of an ancient horse from around 10 million years ago were found.
In the area there are rocky peaks with castle ruins on their heights. The geological-botanical nature trail between Csákvár and Gánt leads over 3–4 km over the Haraszt mountain and through the Kőlik valley. Bauxite is mined at Gánt . In the nearby Vérteskozma old farmhouses can be visited.
history
The ancient name of the place was probably Floriana / Florentiae . It was on the Roman road to Aquincum in Lower Pannonia and was the seat of a Praefectus classis Histricae , a section commander of the Roman navy on the Pannonian Danube .
