The Starhemberg Palace on Dorotheergasse is a palace in Vienna's 1st district, Inner City .

history

The originally early baroque property was owned by various noble families during the 17th century. From the Pollhaim family as the original client and first owner, it soon passed to the Trauttmansdorff family and in 1684 to Ferdinand Graf von Rueber. From 1702 it was first owned by the Starhemberger family under Maria Josepha Countess Starhemberg . At that time the early baroque palace was rebuilt in the high baroque style by the architect Matthias Steinl .

In the course of the 18th century, the Starhembergers sold it to Andreas Gottlieb von Thom, who had minor renovations carried out. From 1826 the property was in civil ownership. Extensive renovations were carried out in 1896 by Fritz Rumpelmayer under the owner Alexander Margrave Pallavicini. In 1935 the palace came into the possession of the Steiermärkische Sparkasse in Graz . Today it is privately owned and houses the Dorotheergasse private outpatient clinic.

A plaque on the palace suggests that the composer Conradin Kreutzer also lived in it in 1840 . However, Kreutzer only lived in this area in the nearby citizen hospital .
