history
Palanpur was the capital of the former princely state of Palanpur . The origins of the city go back to the 7th century, when a fabulous previously populated place called Pralhadan Patan was repopulated . In the 14th century, the city fell to the Pashtun Jhalori dynasty. It was fortified in 1750 with a 5 km long wall of which only one city gate has survived. Since 1809/17 it belonged to the British protectorate Palanpur, which became a federal state with the independence of India in 1947. This was dissolved in 1949 and fell to the state of Bombay ; later the city came to the state of Gujarat.
