The Palatinus-tó ( Palatinus Lake ) is the largest lake in the city of Esztergom ( Gran ) in Hungary . It is fed by groundwater and is one of the cleanest bathing lakes in the country.
The lake was created by open- cast lignite mining not far from the Dorog coal center ( Drostdorf ). After the coal, sand was also mined here. It got its name from Budapest swimmers, who compared the water quality with the Palatinus lido in the capital. A department store, a local TV station and a hotel are named after the lake itself.
The lido and diving center are located on the north shore of the lake . A diving museum (Búvármúzeum) was established in 2006. Anglers have built their houses on the south bank and fishing has been going on here since 1953.
