Palazzo Ariani Minotto Cigogna , also simply Palazzo Ariani or in Venetian Palazzo Arian , is a palace in Venice in the Italian region of Veneto . It is located in the Dorsoduro sestiere , almost in front of the Angelo San Raffaele church and near the San Sebastiano church . The neighboring Ponte del Soccorso connects it with the Ca 'Zenobio degli Armeni .

history

A Palazzo Ariani is already occupied at this point in the year 845. The current building dates from the 13th century and was the home of the Arian family , who were part of the Venetian patriciate until they died out in the 17th century (the last offspring was Giacomo Arian ). In the 17th century the property fell to the Pasqualigo family . After several other changes of ownership, the building finally ended up in the hands of Lucia Cicogna, a nun who had it converted into a college .

From 1870 the Palazzo Ariani Minotto Cigogna was owned by the City of Venice, then the Province of Venice ; today the Vendramin Corner technical institute is housed there.

description

The palazzo has three floors and is one of the three examples of Gothic architecture in the city. The facade shows a remarkable window arrangement on the two main floors: In addition to an old, elegant multiple window on the left side, there are two individual, Gothic windows to the right.

It is also worth mentioning the presence of a courtyard, partly enclosed by the building, partly by a wall that adjoins the facade on the left. A staircase supported by round arches leads from this courtyard to the upper floors.
