Palazzo Cavalli , also Palazzo Corner Martinengo , is a palace in Venice in the Italian region of Veneto . It is located in the Sestiere of San Marco , overlooking the Grand Canal, between Palazzo Grimani and Ca 'Farsetti , opposite Palazzo Barzizza .

history

The palace, built in the 16th century, was rebuilt in the following centuries. The writer James Fenimore Cooper lived there for a while in the 19th century .

The Palazzo Cavalli was later converted into a hotel, but today it houses the Centro Previsioni e Segnalazioni Maree of the city of Venice, which has published the official Acqua alta forecasts since 1980 .

The building has three floors and a classical facade in the style of the 16th century.

On the ground floor there are two portals on a small foundation towards the water.

The two main floors, which protrude from the ground floor, are provided with quadruple round arched windows with balustrades . They are flanked by three simple windows on each side with parapets .

A small parapet with terrace is located above the central part of the building and the finely toothed ledge on the roof edge.

On the side facing the alley, an old Liagò , a classic terraced loggetta, has been preserved on the palace , as it was typical of the Venetian aristocratic architecture . There are only a few copies left.
