Palazzo Foresti Papadopoli , also Palazzo Poerio Papadopoli , is a palace in Venice in the Italian region of Veneto . It is located in the Santa Croce sestiere with a view of the Rio dei Tolentini between the Palazzo Condulmer and the Hotel Papadopoli , opposite the Church of San Nicola da Tolentino . On January 11, 2010 the palace was declared of Cultural Interest within the meaning of Article 12 of the D. Lgs. 42/2004 declared.

history

The palace was built in the 16th century and substantially rebuilt in the 18th century. It was finally restored in the 20th century. In the first decades of the 20th century, the Conte Papadopoli bequeathed the palace to the city of Venice, which made it accessible to the public. The grandiose garden was then reduced to half its size on the south side in 1933 through the construction of the Rio Novo and the construction of the Park Hotel (today Hotel Papadopoli of the Sofitel Group). (What was left of it are the gardens of the same name behind the palace and the remaining flower beds in Piazzale Roma .) The palace itself was adapted for use as a school and on December 19, 1921, a primary school for girls was inaugurated there, which later copied Alessandro Poerio was named. It was also intended as an outdoor school, as it is surrounded by an imposing park of almost 1.2 hectares, which, after appropriate planning, could also accommodate students from other schools. Due to the reduction in the number of students in Venice, the school had to be closed and today a command of the city police is housed in the palace. The city of Venice recently put the property up for auction for € 14 million.

description

According to a clear, classic taste, the floor plan presents itself simply as a rectangle and shows the classic type of a salon and reception room at the time. You can get to the reception room on the ground floor through the central entrances at the front. The palace shows two views that are well-defined in architectural terms: one from the east, towards the Rio dei Tolentini , opposite the church of the same name, of a more urban character, and in the west one towards the associated garden. Although the two facades show different architectural elements, they have in common the search for symmetry that reflects the three-part system, as well as the alignment of the window openings on the central axis, which also affects the two entrances to the palace on the ground floor. The north side of the walkway through the Giardini Papadopoli is connected to the adjoining hotel by a lobby . The palace has two main floors, a mezzanine floor and an attic.
