Palazzo Foscari Contarini
Palazzo Foscari Contarini is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Santa Croce sestiere with a view of the Grand Canal to the left of the Palazzo Adoldo and opposite the Church of Santa Maria di Nazareth . Opposite it is the Ponte degli Scalzi .
history
The Foscari family , to which the long-time Doge Francesco Foscari belonged, had the Palazzo Foscari Contarini built in the 16th century and rebuilt several times in the following century. In the 20th century, the palace fell into disrepair until it was bought by the Istituto nazionale per l'assicurazione contro gli infortuni sul lavoro (INAIL; "National Insurance Institute against Industrial Accidents") in 1951 . This had the entire complex restored in the second half of the 20th century.
description
The Palazzo Foscari Contarini is a building with a U-shaped floor plan and two facades on the Grand Canal, between which a boundary wall closes the inner courtyard.
The renaissance style of the building can be seen especially when looking at the right facade, in the arcades of the open gallery on the first main floor, which form a large five-ply window with balusters . The left part, on the other hand, is much more unadorned towards the canal, where there are three individual windows with stone frames and balusters. There you will find a series of round arches on the courtyard side, as they are characteristic of the right part of the building.
