Palazzo Giustinian Recanati

Palazzo Giustinian Recanati is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Dorsoduro sestiere overlooking the Canale della Giudecca , a little to the left of the Palazzo Clary .

history

The Palazzo Giustinian Recanati was built in the 16th century as a residence for a branch of the Giustinian family who was connected to the Morosini family on their mother's side .

It fell through inheritance to the Recanati family , originally from Badia Polesine and belonging to the Venetian patriciate since the 17th century.

Today, all parts of the palace are in good condition and still belong to the descendants of the Giustinian-Recanati family .

description

The Palazzo Giustinian Recanati extends over three floors. The facade shows a wide portal on the ground floor, on which the coat of arms of the Giustinians is emblazoned in stone. On the main floor there are arched openings with stone parapets , set in rectangular frames: two pairs of individual windows on the sides and a large quadruple window in the middle, supported by Ionic columns. On the mezzanine floor under the roof, which has a serrated eaves , there are eight small, square windows.

The rear facade of the palace is classicistic , which is due to an alteration in the 18th century, probably carried out by Antonio Diedo . This facade points to a small garden on the Rio di Ognisanti , from which it is separated by a wall on which sits a 19th century statue depicting the "Madonna and Child".

Inside, the palace is lavishly decorated with stucco work from the 18th century and antique furniture
