Palazzo Pisani Gritti is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the San Marco sestiere overlooking the Grand Canal . Opposite is the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute , on the left the Campo del Traghetto , which in turn is adjacent to the Church of Santa Maria Zobenigo .

history

The palace dates back to the 14th century and was originally planned as a three-story building. The facade to the Campo del Traghetto dates from the time of the renovations in the 16th century; At the same time, the frescoes that Giorgione was commissioned to do for the facade of the Grand Canal were created, but - like those on the Fondaco dei Tedeschi - were lost.

Later modifications

In the second half of the 19th century the palace was extended by one floor. In the 20th century it was converted into a luxury hotel; today's front terrace on the first floor, facing the Grand Canal, was added.

description

The Palazzo Pisani Gritti is a four-story building. The ground floor is very low; above it rise the three main floors, all in the Gothic style , for which the pointed arch windows are typical. The two lower main floors each have an elegant five-fold window in the middle and two individual windows on both sides of the central window. The windows on the first main floor have pointed arches and on the second keel arches . On the top main floor, which was built around 1890, the five-fold window in the middle has been replaced by three individual windows with spaces in between; All of these windows have pointed arches, as on the first floor. All windows on the first floor and the individual windows on the second floor have protruding stone balconies with balusters .
