The international bus connection from St. Moritz ( Switzerland ) via Menaggio ( Italy ) to Lugano (Switzerland) is known as the Palm Express . The Palm-Express is one of the scheduled touristic «Route Express Lines» of the Swiss bus company PostBus .

Route description

The approximately four-hour bus ride starts at the train station of the Rhaetian Railway in St. Moritz ( 1775  m above sea level. M. ) and runs up the valley until about the Engadine Lake District to the Maloja Pass ( 1815  m above sea level. M. ). There the road winds in tight curves down into Val Bregaglia (German: Bergell) and across the border to Chiavenna, Italy ( 333  m above sea level ). After a short coffee stop, the journey leads to Lake Mezzola and further along the right bank of Lake Como to Menaggio . There the post bus takes the crossing to Lake Lugano , where it crosses the border again at Gandria and a short time later reaches its destination in Lugano, Switzerland ( 334  m above sea level ) at the Swiss Federal Railways station .

Timetable

The timetable is irregular. The Palm-Express runs daily in both directions in the summer and autumn months from the beginning of June to the end of October, as well as during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Otherwise it only runs on weekends. A travel document or identity card must be taken with you on the line to cross the border. The general subscription is valid without a surcharge.

Thanks to several stops along the way, it is also possible to drive only part of the route.
