A LifeDrive

The LifeDrive is a PDA released by Palm in May 2005 (manufacturer's categorization: Mobile Manager ).

It is the first Palm device to offer WLAN , Bluetooth and a 4 GB microdrive . Further, a is ARM - processor 416 MHz and a display with 320 × 480 pixels installed.

While all previous handhelds used volatile RAM memory or flash memory modules to store data, this device has a hard disk. This must be switched on briefly for every program that is not already in the RAM, which means that time (half a second to a second) is lost and the battery life is impaired. For many users this is a contra argument. However, file access can be accelerated by third-party cache programs. The maximum running time is usually given as around three hours, but varies greatly with the type of use - while reading e-books or listening to music with the screen switched off, running times of more than six hours are possible when viewing Videos the battery will be exhausted after two hours. On the other hand, the use of a non-volatile storage medium reduces the risk of data loss due to deep discharge of the battery.

Production of the LifeDrive was discontinued in early 2007.
