Palmwag is an oasis and a surrounding concession area for nature conservation in northwestern Namibia .

geography

It is located in the Kunene region, in the northwestern former Damaraland on the edge of the Kaokoveld , halfway between Swakopmund and the Etosha National Park . It covers an area of ​​about 5000 square kilometers. The main lifeline of the area is the Uniab valley .

Directly south of Palmwag the veterinary fence runs across the main road C43 , north of the junction of the main road C40 to the east.

Flora and fauna

The animal species in Palmwag include leopard , lion , cheetah , mountain zebra , giraffe , springbok , kudu , hyena, and African elephant . The reserve also has the largest population of southwestern black rhinos in Africa; a local organization called Save the Rhino Trust protects them.

Palmwag is a tourist attraction. The main accommodation in the area is the Palmwag Lodge operated by the Gondwana Collection Namibia in the oasis.
