Pamela Sharples, Baroness Sharples (born February 11, 1923 ) is a British politician ( Conservative Party ) and life peeress .

Life

Sharples was born in England as the daughter of Lieutenant Commander Keith William Newall and his wife Violet Ruby Ashton . Sharples visited the South Over Manor School, a private boarding school for girls in Lewes in the county of East Sussex . From 1941 to 1946 she was obliged to serve in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF), the women's corps of the Royal Air Force .

In 1946 she married Major , later Sir Richard Christopher Sharples , later MP for the constituencies of Sutton and Cheam , and later Minister of State in the Home Office and later Governor of Bermuda . The marriage had four children, two sons and two daughters. Sharples and her husband shared a passion for sailing in their private lives . The couple also enjoyed an intense friendship with the later British Prime Minister Edward Heath . Pamela Sharples supported her husband's political career, especially during his time as a member of parliament, and accompanied him to Bermuda in 1972 after Sharples had been appointed governor of the British Overseas Territory . After Sharples' assassination in 1973 by assassins belonging to a violent Black Power group in Bermuda, Pamela Sharples left Bermuda and lived in Great Britain again . Later, after a long absence, she and her family returned to Bermuda on various occasions for visits and also purchased a property there.

From 1979 to 1981, Sharples was a member of the Armed Forces Pay Review Board. From 1981 to 1992 she was President ( Chairman ) of the TVS Trust .

Sharples was married two more times: first from 1977 to 1980 with Patrick David de László, who died in 1980. During this time she wore the marriage and family name László. In 1983 she married Robert Douglas Swan, who died in 1995. From 1983 her married name was Swan.

Sharples mentions golf and gardening as her hobbies .

Membership in the House of Lords

Pamela Sharples was named a Life Peeress on June 18, 1973, with the title Baroness Sharples, of Chawton in the County of Hampshire . She sits in the House of Lords for the Conservative Party. The appointment as a Life Peeress expressed particular appreciation and sympathy for Sir Richard Sharples, as well as the respect that the British government showed him for his political achievements.

Sharples since 1997 Treasurer ( Treasurer ) of the Forestry Group , since 2003 the Middle Way Group . Sharples cites her political interests as being small businesses , “ checkbook journalism,animal disease protection , the concerns of wives of convicts, and defense policy . Geographically, she has a particular political interest in South Africa .
