Pan American Football Championship

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pan American Football Championship was a championship for national football teams from North, Central and South America comparable to the Copa América , which was held three times between 1952 and 1960. The organizer was the Pan American Football Confederation (PFC) founded in 1946 , which has not appeared since.

The competition, not to be confused with the football tournament as part of the Pan-American Games , was held in 1952 and 1956 with six and 1960 with four participants. The game was played in league format in a simple round of everyone against everyone in one city. In 1960 the teams competed against each other twice. The criteria for participation are unknown. The national football team of Brazil won the first two editions held in Chile and Mexico. The national soccer team of Argentina won the third tournament in Costa Rica.
