- The second USS Panay (PR-5) was a river gunboat , launched in 1927, and was used on the Yangtze River in China . It was sunk by Japanese forces in the so-called Panay incident in 1937 .
- The third Panay was an auxiliary ship , which was originally used under the name USS Midway (AG-41), but was renamed Panay in 1943 to make the Midway name available for an aircraft carrier .
