The Panay is a 501 m high volcano in the Philippines .
The mountain is located on the Calumpang peninsula , which separates Balayan Bay from Batangas Bay and is located south of Lake Taal in the Batangas province on the island of Luzon . The Panay is a striking landmark for ships that use the busy shipping route of the Isla Verde Strait .
The Panay is a flat stratovolcano . The files of the Philippine Bureau of Mines indicate the activity of the Panay for the Pleistocene era . Mineralogical investigations revealed historical fumarolic activities on the mountain. Batangas Bay is located in the region of two tectonic fault zones, the Bataan Line and the Palawan-Macolod Line, in which calderas are also located below the sea surface.
