Panchrysia dives is a butterfly ( moth ) from the owl butterfly family(Noctuidae).
description
butterfly
The wingspan of the moth is 29 to 37 millimeters. This makes them one of the smaller Plusiinae species. The top of the forewings has a maroon base color. In the somewhat darker discal region there are several large, conspicuous, metallic, shiny silver-white spots. Two more, smaller, same-colored, sickle-shaped spots can be seen on the front edge . Two to three large black-brown whistling spots stand out below the apex . The upper side of the hind wings is bright yellow to yellow orange. The submarginal region is filled with a wide black band.
Egg, caterpillar, pupa
There is currently no information about the first stands.
Similar species
The butterflies of the bog gold owl ( Syngrapha microgamma ), Hochenwarth's gold owl ( Syngrapha hochenwarthi ) and Syngrapha devergens , also belonging to the small Plusiinae species and with yellow upper sides of the hind wings, lack the multitude of silver-white spots on the upper side of the fore wing. Because of this very distinctive pattern, the moths of Panchrysia dives are unmistakable.
distribution and habitat
Panchrysia dives occurs from the Urals eastwards through southern Siberia to the Pacific Ocean . The distribution area also includes Kamchatka , Sakhalin and the Kuriles . The main habitat of the species are cool, moist slopes and mountain meadows.
Way of life
The moths form one generation per year, which can be found from June to August. They sometimes fly during the day and suckle on flowers, but like to visit artificial light sources at night , sometimes in numbers. There is currently no information on the food plants of the caterpillars.
