Panchrysia ornata is a butterfly ( moth ) from the owl butterfly family(Noctuidae).
features
The wingspan of the moth is 32 to 40 millimeters. They have gray-brown forewings in the middle of which a silver-white symbol in the form of the letter V stands out with a circle or line above. A large and three small silver-white dots adjoin towards the outer edge. The middle field is delimited by two double whitish transverse lines, the inner pair describes an acute angle to the outside, the outer one ends in a wave near the apex . The hind wings are unmarked gray-brown, slightly darkened at the edge. The thorax is furry and has a few tufts of hair, the proboscis is well developed.
Similar species
Espers Meadow Silver Owl ( Panchrysia v-argenteum ) shows almost identical silver-white drawing elements on the forewings, but it differs significantly in the red-brown basic color.
distribution and habitat
Panchrysia ornata occurs from the Urals through Siberia , Mongolia and further east over the mountain ranges Sichote-Alin and Paektusan to Kamchatka and the Pacific coast . The species was detected at an altitude of 2400 meters. It prefers to colonize moist deciduous forests.
Way of life
The moths of Panchrysia ornata form one, in climatically favorable locations two generations per year. The main flight times are July and August. The food plants of the caterpillars are currently unknown.
