Pangasius larnaudii is a species of fish in the genus Pangasius within the shark catfish family. It occurs in Mae Nam Chao Phraya and in the Mekong in Thailand , Vietnam , Laos , Cambodia and Myanmar . The species is fished commercially.

features

Pangasius larnaudii differs from other species of the genus by a large, black spot just above the pectoral fin . The dorsal, thoracic, ventral and anal fins have thread-like appendages. Both lobes of the caudal fin usually have a black stripe. The animals reach a length of about 80 cm, a maximum of 130 cm, and a weight of up to 4.8 kg.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 60.

Way of life

The species colonizes large river systems and is found both in fast-flowing regions and in slow-flowing, deep water. The spawn is deposited at the beginning of the rainy season, after which the adult animals migrate into the flood plains. Small fish, crustaceans, molluscs and plants serve as food.
