Pangasius rheophilus is a species of fish in the genus Pangasius within the shark catfish family. The species is endemic to eastern Borneo .

features

Pangasius rheophilus reaches a body length of about 78 cm. It differs from the other species of the genus by a palatal dentition, which consists of a large plate on the ploughshare , which is bordered by two narrow plates on the palatal bone . The body width reaches 15 to 17% of the length of the head body, the length in front of the dorsal fin 34.6 to 36.1%.

Way of life

The species colonizes fresh water areas near the river mouth and water basins near the sea. It is found in both still and fast flowing water. Adult animals can only be found in flowing water and can jump over waterfalls.

Molluscs are likely to serve as food for young animals , while older animals also catch smaller fish and eat fruit.
