Pantelis Voulgaris

Pantelis Voulgaris ( Greek Παντελής Βούλγαρης ); * October 2, 1940 in Athens is a Greek film director .

Alongside Theo Angelopoulos , he is the best-known representative of the new Greek cinema. He studied directing at the Athens Film School. He then directed plays and television plays. During the military dictatorship in 1973 he was in exile for 6 months. His films have been shown at many film festivals including Berlin , Venice and Moscow and have received numerous awards. At the 43rd Thessaloniki International Film Festival in 2002, an extensive retrospective was shown with the complete film work including documentaries and TV series. He has worked several times with the cameraman Giorgos Arvanitis , known for his collaboration with Theo Angelopoulos; most recently for the film Nyfes (Νύφες).

Pantelis Voulgaris is married to the writer Ioanna Karystiani . You have two children.
