Menis Koumandareas
Menis Koumandareas ( Greek Μένης Κουμανταρέας ; * January 4, 1931 in Athens ; † December 5, 2014 ibid) was a Greek writer .
Life
Koumandareas was a representative of social realism in Greek prose. After dropping out of his studies, he worked for several years in shipping companies and insurance companies before devoting himself entirely to literature as a freelance writer in 1982 in his native city of Athens, which he has hardly ever left and which is often the setting for his stories. He first drew attention to himself in the Greek literary scene in 1962 with his book of short stories Ta mihanakia . Koumandareas has received several Greek literary prizes for his short stories and novels (1967, 1976, 2002). His novel I fanella me to 9 ( Η φανέλλα με το 9 , dt. The jersey with the 9) was filmed in 1988 by Pantelis Voulgaris . In 1972 he was a guest of the DAAD's Berlin artist program.
On December 6, 2014, Menis Koumandareas was found dead in his Athens apartment. The police assume a murder of the 83-year-old writer.
