The Panther DeVille is an automobile made by the British vehicle manufacturer Panther Westwinds , which was manufactured in small numbers and by hand from 1974 to 1985. The style is based on the design of the 1930s. Robert Jankel , the owner of Panther Westwinds, was clearly inspired by the Bugatti T41 "Royale" . However, the DeVille is not an accurate replica of the model, but represents a very free interpretation of this topic.

technology

The DeVille rests on a chassis that Panther developed especially for this vehicle. Most of the drive technology comes from Jaguar ; this applies to the engine as well as to the automatic transmission and other components. Both the 4.2 liter six-cylinder and the 5.3 liter twelve-cylinder from Jaguar were available; the six-cylinder, however, was far more popular. The use of Jaguar technology required a noticeable bulge on the right side of the bonnet, which was detrimental to the appearance, but was unavoidable with regard to the location of the engine.

Most DeVille models were made as four-door sedans. In addition, there were also individual copies that were built as a two-door coupé and as a convertible. The passenger cell of the four-door sedan was taken over from the Austin 1800 "Landcrab" ; this can be seen in the wide doors that were characteristic of this model (and some other derivatives). In the Coupé, however, the doors came from the Jaguar XJC.

distribution

Between 1974 and 1985, a total of 60 DeVille models were built, 46 of them as a sedan and 11 as a convertible. One example was produced in 1984 as an extended six-door sedan; The customer was a prince from Malaysia .
