Paolo Ruffini (journalist)

Paolo Ruffini (* 1956 in Palermo , Sicily ) is an Italian journalist and since 2018 Prefect of the Dicastery for Communication of the Holy See .

Life

Paolo Ruffini is the son of the politician Attilio Ruffini and nephew of the Cardinal and Bishop of Palermo, Ernesto Ruffini , and the politician Enrico La Loggia .

He attended the Jesuit Massimiliano Massimo and studied law at the University of La Sapienza . He was an editor for the daily newspapers Il Mattino in Naples (1979–1986) and Il Messaggero in Rome (1986–1996) as well as for the radio stations Giornale Radio Rai (1996–2002), Rai Gr Parlamento (1998–2002), Radio 1 ( 1999–2002), Radio Inblu (2014–2018), as well as for the TV channels Rai 3 (2002–2011), La7 (2011–2014) and TV2000 (2014–2018). From 1993 to 1996 he was Vice President of the Parliamentary Press Association.

On July 5, 2018, Pope Francis appointed him to succeed Dario Edoardo Viganò as head of the Dicastery for Communications , a dicastery of the Roman Curia with authority over all public relations of the Holy See and the Vatican City . With Ruffini, the first prefect of a curia authority was installed who is not a priest.
