Paoua is a city in Ouham-Pendé prefecture in the Central African Republic .
geography
The area around Paoua is considered to be the breadbasket of the Central African Republic. Numerous rivers run through the plain. The center of Paoua is also located on the northeast bank of the Paoua river of the same name . The soccer field is also located there. And on the eastern outskirts of the Paoua Airport (FEFP, ⊙ ). The settlements of Poukay ( ⊙ , 595 m ) and Bonabili are southwest of the river . Well-known rivers nearby are Lougan ( ⊙ ) and Ndoula ( ⊙ ),
The district extends from the border with Chad in the north along the RR 6 to the south towards Bozoum . At Bédaoyo ( ⊙ , 458 m ) there is a border crossing to Chad.
history
Paoua and the surrounding area became a ghost town after attacks by rebels and government soldiers in 2006 and 2007 . Most of the population has fled to the bush or to refugee camps . In 2017, the population was estimated at 40,000 again. In the military conflicts over Bah-Bessar , Mia-Pendé , Nana-Barya and Banhin Ouham Pende , over 70,000 people became refugees and came to Paoua. This led to an economic hardship among the local population.
