history

Warmsdorf, which had become desolate in the Middle Ages, was in the Papenberg area . On November 25, 1450, the desert, together with its field mark and the Kienenberg, came from the Althaldensleben monastery to the St. Mary's Church . However, the von Santersleben family claimed a quarter of these properties, so that St. Mary's Church did not take full ownership of the land. The city of Haldensleben also appropriated the forest of the Kienenberg.

In 1565 the Warmsdorf church fields were handed over to a pastor, then called Pape , for payment. In 1574 the fields came back into the possession of the church. Instead, the pastor received a wispel of rye every year . The name Papenberg has been used for the mountain since then. In 1754 mulberry tree plantations were established on royal instructions . An apartment for a silk cultivator was set up on the Papenberg .

The Papenberg Inn was later built. Its tenant was Heinrich Bonnes in the 1890s. The development of the inn was favored by the fact that the Oebisfelde – Magdeburg railway was opened in the 1870s . The Gasthaus Papenberg was easy to reach even for guests from Magdeburg . In 1907 it was connected to the Haldensleben – Weferlingen railway and in 1911 to the Haldensleben – Gardelegen railway , which further improved accessibility. The Flora-Papenberg halt existed a little east of Papenberg . The Kurhotel Flora was built east of Papenberg.

In 1909 Hermann Neander expanded the inn and built a dance hall as well as social and lodging rooms. In 1910 Wilhelm Berg bought the inn and added a balcony supported by pillars.

There was also a farmyard next to the inn. In 1879 the farmer Hermann Müller bought the farm from Meschmann's heirs. In 1902 Franz Krampe became the owner. Krampe built in 1909, a barn, which is close to the then existing Pape pond was to a Convalescent Home in rustic country style to. The district forester's apartment was also located here. The Haldensleben city forester Josef Petri lived in it. There was an observation tower on the nearby Ochsenberg . Beautification work was carried out in the Papenberg area. In 1908, for example, the undergrowth of the forest was removed and made into wood. A visual axis from the pond to the railroad and paths were also created. A sports and playground was also built.

Economic development stagnated during the First World War . A hospital was housed in Papenberg . Papenberg also served as a hospital location during the Second World War . A children's rest home was set up near Papenberg from 1921 to 1925 and existed until 1946.
