Papyrus Bodmer II (or 66 ) is an almost complete code of the Gospel according to John . It is part of the Bodmer Papyri Collection and one of the oldest known manuscripts of the New Testament . His writing is dated to around 200.

text

The manuscript contains John 1: 1–6, 11; 6.35-14.26.29-30; 15.2-26; 16.2-4.6-7; 16.10-20.20.22-23; 20.25-21.9.

In Papyrus 66 , the incident with Jesus and the adulteress is missing (7.53–8.11). It is thus the earliest testimony that this passage does not originally belong to the Gospel of John .

The manuscript also contains nouns sacra throughout .

It is currently kept in the Bibliotheca Bodmeriana in Cologny near Geneva . The papyrus consists of 39 folia (that makes 78 sheets, 156 pages) with a size of 14.2 × 16.2 cm for each sheet with about 15 to 25 lines per page.

According to recent research by papyrologist Karyn Berner and Philip Comfort, it is certain that three people were involved in the writing of 66 : the original professional scribe, a thorough proofreader and a minor proofreader.

The Greek text of the Codex is a representative of the Alexandrian text type . Kurt and Barbara Aland describe it as a "free text" and place it under the categories of manuscripts of the New Testament in Category I and thus in the highest quality level.

A transcription of every single page of 66 can be found in the book by Comfort and Barett on pages 388 to 468.
