The Paracelsus Hospital Unterlengenhardt is a hospital in Unterlengenhardt in the northern Black Forest . With its integrative therapy concept, the Clinic for Internal Medicine is one of five anthroposophic acute hospitals in Germany.

history

In 1912, the Burghalde sanatorium - located opposite today's hospital - was built as a rest home. The Austrian doctor and anthroposophist Eugen Kolisko began here together with the doctor Helene von Grunelius in April 1935 with a first clinical activity in the sense of anthroposophic medicine . Seven months later, anthroposophic medicine was banned in Germany. In 1942 the hospital was confiscated by the National Socialists and converted into a children's home. In the post-war period , anthroposophic treatments were permitted again. This enabled the sanatorium to reopen in April 1946. Gretel Schopf, daughter of Eduard Schopf, the founder of Eduscho, was treated for months in the Burghalde sanatorium in 1949. Together with the German doctor Walther Bühler , who referred to the anthroposophical art of healing in his works, Schopf initiated the construction of the first part of today's clinic in 1956. To this end, she donated a large part of her inheritance and, after her recovery, took part in the hospital herself. In 1957 the Paracelsushaus was able to start operating as a sanatorium and continue to run it until 1967. In 1970 the doctors Hans-Bernhardt Andrae and Volker Bergengrün continued to run the Paracelsus house as a Paracelsus house. In 1976 the planning and construction of an extension building was initiated. After Gretel Schopf founded the “Paracelsus Hospital Foundation” together with her friend Irmgard Koch and the doctor Herbert Siewecke in 1969, she transferred the house and grounds of the Paracelsus Hospital to the association. Through the initiative and the legacy of Gretel Schopf, the "Free Study Site" was created in 1978/79 for research and deepening of medical, therapeutic and educational treatment options.
