Walther Bühler
Walther Bühler (born April 2, 1913 in Homburg , Saarland ; † October 14, 1995 in Unterlengenhardt , Bad Liebenzell ) was a German doctor , author and speaker. Bühler was the founder of an anthroposophic clinic in Unterlengenhardt in the Black Forest ( Paracelsus Hospital Unterlengenhardt ) and founder of a citizens' movement for an anthroposophically oriented healing art (Association for an extended healing system - today GESUNDHEIT AKTIV - Anthroposophische Heilkunst eV ). He published medical, cosmological and anthroposophical works and advocated "effective health promotion based on spiritual perspectives" with public lectures and seminars.
Life
Walther Bühler was born as the oldest of four siblings in Saarland. His father, Otto Bühler, was a lawyer and district administrator in the Saar-Palatinate district. Bühler studied medicine in Basel in order to also learn anthroposophic medicine at the nearby Ita Wegman Clinic in Arlesheim. After completing his studies, he was appointed as an assistant doctor at what was then the anthroposophical sanatorium “Burghalde” in Unterlengenhardt. He took part in the Second World War as a medical officer in Finland. After being taken prisoner in England, he went to Heidelberg University. There he began lecturing alongside clinical training and practice representation. In 1949 he took over the management of the "Burghalde" Unterlengenhardt. In 1952 he founded the patient association “Association for an extended healing system” there, which he accompanied until the end of his life. With the move of the association to Berlin and the appointment of new management in January 2014, the association is realigning its activities and is now called “GESUNDHEIT AKTIV - Anthroposophische Heilkunst e. V. “According to its own information, the association now has around 8,000 members.
In 1957, Bühler opened the newly built clinic “Paracelsus Hospital” opposite the “Burghalde”, which he managed for 10 years. During this time, he severely restricted his lecturing activities in order to take them up full-time after leaving the clinic. In addition, Bühler intervened in the discussion about the calendar reform and the determination of Easter with his explanation of the spiritual background of the calendar order.
At the end of 1992, Bühler stopped giving lectures due to a heart attack. He dedicated the last years of his life to his work on the golden section, which he was able to complete before his death in October 1995.
