Arif Aziz

Arif Aziz (or: Ариф Азиз; * 1943 in Baku ; actually Asis Arif Mokhub Ali / Азиз Ариф Мохубали) is an Azerbaijani artist who lives and teaches in the capital of the country - Baku. In his home country Azerbaijan , Arif Aziz is known as one of the most important contemporary artists and ambassadors for peace in his country. For many years he was the Vice President of the Azerbaijani Cultural Assembly.

Life

Arif Aziz was born in Baku, where he still lives and works today. He initially studied at the Azerbaijan State Art School between 1957 and 1962 . He later completed a five-year graphic designer degree in Moscow . He has been teaching fine arts at universities in his home country since the early 1970s. In 2005 the Beykent University in Istanbul offered him a professorship for painting , which he held until 2007. He then became the department head for arts and applied arts at Baku University .

In its beginnings, Aziz necessarily followed the teachings of socialist realism . However, in the Soviet times he still managed to escape a flat, bold, socially realistic objectivity . He often depicts sights, cities and landscapes of his homeland with expressive, relaxed brushstrokes and often with a reduced palette. He connects the image of the human being with the ornamentation from the different architectural styles, carpet patterns and generally with the Islamic culture of his homeland. The work of Arif Aziz reflects the influences of his numerous study trips , for example to Africa , Moscow and Paris , Turkey and India . The mixing effected by Aziz made a new abstraction possible, which has become trend-setting for many young Azerbaijani artists.
