Langada ( Greek Παραλία Λαγκάδα Paralia Langada ) is a beach in the southeast of the Greek island of Crete . It is located on the Bay of Makrygialos ( Όρμος Μακρυγιαλού ) of the Libyan Sea and belongs to the local community Pefki ( Πεύκοι ) of the municipality of Sitia ( Σητεία ).

Location and description

The beach Langada is located approximately 900 meters southeast of the tourist dominated village Analipsi ( Ανάληψη ), the west to the village Makrygialos ( Μακρυγιαλός passes) with its port. While Makrygialos belongs to the municipality of Ierapetra , Analipsi and Langada beach are part of the easternmost municipality of Crete, Sitia. In the northwest, Langada is bounded by the hill Vigla ( Βίγλα ), on which there was a Minoan settlement, which today also bears the name Diaskari after the north-western neighboring beach Diaskari ( Παραλία Διασκάρι ) . In the southeast of Langada the small peninsula Psalidia ( Ψαλίδια 'scissors') separates the bay of Makrygialos from the bay of Kalo Nero ( Όρμος Καλά Νερά ).

Beach view from the northwest

At Langada , two rivers that do not carry water constantly flow, the Andromylos ( Ανδρόμυλος Ποταμός ) in the northwestern area and the Langadiotis ( Λαγκαδιώτης ) at the southeast end of the beach. With the exception of a private property at the mouth of the Andromylos and a greenhouse that extends to the beach, Langada is undeveloped. In the hinterland there are more greenhouses surrounded by olive groves . The only larger hotel in the area is 300 meters from the coast, the Bay View Resort on the road from Analipsi to Goudouras ( Γούδουρας ). Few buildings on the road form in the southeast above the Langadiotis place Langada.

Langada beach is 870 meters long, its maximum width is 60 meters. Pebble and sand areas alternate. In the area facing away from the sea there are small stones scattered around. Behind the beach there are a few tamarisk trees , especially in the north-western area near the mouth of the Andromylos , where a small brackish lake can be found even in summer . From there a footpath leads over the Vigla to the beach of Diaskari , which was designated as bathing water in 1996. The water quality there, which has been regularly checked since 2010 in accordance with the EU Bathing Water Directive , and has always been rated excellent since 2012 , should also be valid for Langada . On some sections of the beach, slabs of rock form the shore area. Under the hill Vigla between Langada and Diaskari lies the small cave Karavospilios (Schiffαραβόσπηλιος 'ship cave ') ', which can only be reached from the sea side.

Access

From the road between Analipsi and Goudouras several unpaved roads lead towards the coast. Some of them are difficult to drive on. Free parking is possible in front of the beach.
